Dr. Peter Swift is Managing Director of INTERTANKO (The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners). INTERTANKO represents the interests of more than 290 oil and chemical tanker owners and a further almost 350 associate members from related companies. INTERTANKO’s members are committed to lead the continuous improvement of the Tanker Industry in striving to achieve the goals of zero fatalities, zero pollution and zero detentions.
Peter Swift is a Director of the Maritime Industry Foundation, is on the Committee (Advisory Board) of the Green Award, Rotterdam, is Chairman of the European Committee of the Korean Register, and is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping.
He graduated as a Naval Architect in the UK and has a Masters degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a doctorate in Marine Transportation Economics from the University of Michigan, where he was also a visiting professor. Prior to joining INTERTANKO in 2001 he worked for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group for 24 years, where he held a series of senior management positions in various Shell businesses around the World.
